Systems management with JBoss Operations Network (JON)

Bascom Bridge’s JBoss Operations Network (JON) training course teaches students to manage JBoss server installations/clusters (JBoss EAP 6, JBoss AS 7, and/or WildFly 8 or later), as well as associated products such as Apache httpd/mod_cluster.

JBOSS OPERATIONS NETWORK TRAINING OBJECTIVES

All students will:

  • Understand the JON/RHQ architecture and capabilities.
  • Install and configure a JON installation.
  • Configure plugins, and set up agents.
  • Understand and work with inventory – import resources, browse and search, control their display.
  • Configure JBoss AS 7 / EAP 6 / WildFly 8+ ;for management by JON/RHQ.
  • Use the monitoring capabilities.
  • Create and configure alerts and notifications.
  • Define bundles (e.g. a JBoss server with your applications), and provision them to a destination (e.g. a target host).
  • Monitor running applications.
  • Understand and use the capabilities for managing configuration “drift”.

JBOSS OPERATIONS NETWORK TRAINING PREREQUISITES

All JBoss ON students should have prior administration experience on the operating system(s) on which they’ll be running JON. Prior experience administering Java application servers, especially JBoss EAP 6 or later, AS 7 or later, or WildFly 8 or later is recommended but not required.

JBOSS OPERATIONS NETWORK TRAINING MATERIALS

All attendees receive comprehensive courseware.

SOFTWARE NEEDED FOR EACH PC:

  • Windows or Linux operating system
    • Upon request, a VirtualBox VM can be provided with a complete CentOS, openSUSE, or Ubuntu VM
  • JON 3.3.x or later or RHQ 4.13.x
  • JBoss EAP 6.x or later, AS 7.x or later, or WildFly 8 or later
  • Related lab files that Accelebrate would provide
  • For classes delivered online, all participants need either dual monitors or a separate device logged into the online session so that they can do their work on one screen and watch the instructor on the other. A separate computer connected to a projector or large screen TV would be another way for students to see the instructor’s screen simultaneously with working on their own.
