Introduction to Tableau

Bascom Bridge’s Introduction to Tableau training teaches attendees how to use Tableau Desktop to quickly and comprehensively analyze and present data. Participants learn analytical techniques, best practices, and how to create visualizations and calculations ranging from simple to complex, then combine these into dashboards that yield meaningful insights.

INTRODUCTION TO TABLEAU TRAINING OBJECTIVES

All students will:

  • Understand the main Tableau interface
  • Build visualizations
  • Build dashboards
  • Reshape and format data
  • Show trends or change over time
  • Use maps and spatial analysis
  • Learn best practices and analytical techniques using Tableau

INTRODUCTION TO TABLEAU TRAINING PREREQUISITES

All participants must have a strong understanding of relational database concepts, including tables and joins.

INTRODUCTION TO TABLEAU TRAINING MATERIALS

All attendees receive comprehensive courseware.

SOFTWARE NEEDED FOR EACH PC:

  • Tableau Desktop
  • Microsoft Excel 2010 or later (2013 or later recommended)
  • Internet access
  • Related data and lab files that Accelebrate would provide
  • For classes delivered online, all participants need either dual monitors or a separate device logged into the online session so that they can do their work on one screen and watch the instructor on the other. A separate computer connected to a projector or large screen TV would be another way for students to see the instructor’s screen simultaneously with working on their own.
